I love that my friend Cheryl shares with me an affinity for all things French. Every so often I get a French themed postcard in the mail often from the Paris v. New York collection or I get a random text message in French from her. My photo of a cafe table in Paris came from her collection as well! She always brightens my day with these little surprises so last summer when she was looking to rent out her condo as she prepared for her move to her new single family home I was eager to help.
Fortunately, an ex-colleague turned friend happened to reach out asking if I knew of any available spaces in Lynn or the area. I connected her with Cheryl et voilà it was meant to be. Tracey and her boyfriend moved into the Sloan unit down the street from me. Mario and I have since met up with them a couple times. We’ve enjoyed a lovely dinner out at Red Rock Bistro and we’ve hosted them for a wine night at our place. Last night it was their turn to host so Mario and I headed over for a lovely dinner of good food, good wine and good company.
We began with a delicious cheese platter with some sliced meat and some crackers. I am a fan of brie so when Tracey pulled the wedge of hot gooey brie from the oven my eyes lit up! She sauteed some onions in olive oil and spice which really added a nice flavor contrast to the otherwise mild flavored cheese. We chatted and caught up about our holidays and upcoming plans while the smell of pot roast permeated the air.
We sat for dinner and indulged in the savory meat, gravy and roasted potatoes set upon charming authentic Currier & Ives printed plates. We sipped our blueberry and strawberry infused water along with some Crusher wine that Mario recommended having had it a couple times at the Blue Ox. It is a very smooth wine with a slight vanilla cream after taste. It worked really well with the food and made my stomach happy.
It was a really relaxing evening. Not only did we get to enjoy our friends and a good meal but I didn’t have to shop, cook, prepare, clean up or go more than a mile from my home. And of course rounding out the evening with an episode of Donwton Abbey was the icing on the cake!
